What does it mean when I get "Location not available" with my GPS?

Often times this error has to do with the GPS/location services settings on your mobile device.  If you get this error, the first thing to check is that your GPS/location services feature is turned on for your mobile device.  If your GPS/location services are enabled and you are still seeing the error, the second thing to check is that the app has permission to connect to the GPS.  

To check that this permission has been granted please follow the steps below:

iOS - Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Avenza Maps > Allow Location Access > Always
Android - Settings > Apps > Avenza Maps > Permissions > Location > Enabled

If checking these settings still does not resolve the problem, there are a few additional troubleshooting tips to try:

 
  • Turn location services off and back on
  • Restart your mobile device
  • Ensure you are in an area free of any obstructions that might interfere with a GPS signal (e.g. dense forest, underground, downtown area with lots of tall buildings)
