Can I load my own maps into Avenza Maps?

Last Updated: Nov 23, 2017 11:09AM EST

Yes! You can create your own geospatial PDF, GeoPDF®, and GeoTIFF files and load them into the app using several methods...

  • Load maps from the file system (device storage for Android, iTunes File Sharing for iOS)
  • Load maps from Dropbox; and
  • Load maps from the web

Users of our recreational (free) version of the app are restricted to 3 custom (non-map store) maps at any given time. This means that you can swap out these maps as often as you like, but you can only have 3 maps imported at a time.  For those users, who had previously had more than 3 custom maps imported on your device, these maps will continue to function, however, you will not be able to add more maps until you remove enough to be below the 3 map limit.

For those users who require more than 3 maps at a time, there are two subscription options available to you.  The first subscription is our Unlimited Import option which is available for recreational users only and allows the user to import as many of their own maps as they would like. Please note that maps from the Map Store are not included in any limits (they remain unlimited) and that this subscription does not provide free map store maps.

The second subscription option is our Pro subscription, which is designed for our commercial users.  In addition to the commercial licensing that this subscription provides, this level offers shapefile support (import/export), priority support, as well as continued development and the introduction of features. This subscription is required for each device using the app for commercial organizations, military, search and rescue, educational use, and non-profit organizations.  We do offer bulk pricing discounts for Pro subscriptions, as well as discounted pricing.  To see if you qualify for any of these pricing discounts, please contact our Sales or Support teams for further details.
